Laser hair removal is a fast and gentle method of removing unwanted hair with permanent results. Body and facial hair can be a burden, with painful waxing, expensive electrolysis and razors cluttering your budget. Thankfully, there is now a convenient and almost pain-free method of unwanted hair removal for both men and women.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Pigments in the hair follicle absorb the laser light and convert it to heat. The laser pulses damage the follicle and destroy its ability to grow. It is important to treat each follicle during the growth cycle to achieve the maximum hair reduction. For best results, multiple treatments are required; after each treatment, less hair growth will be noticeable.
The laser treats multiple hair simultaneously, making it possible to treat larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face. Laser treatments leave the skin feeling silkier – safe, gentle and affordable.
The treatment area is targeted with the laser after shaving; each session lasts just a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on your needs. A specialized cooling pulse reduces discomfort during the treatment. Some patients may experience a mild sting or pinch during the treatment. No local anaesthesia or pain medication is required. Return to real life immediately after your appointment; your specialist may request you use a skin formulated skin care product and use some sun screen.
The number of sessions for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area which needs to be treated; it is also depends on hair density and their growth stage, as hair develops in a cycle. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, medications and metabolism all play a part in the hair’s location, thickness and resilience. The laser slows the growing capacity of follicles in the growth cycle. Since some hair follicles may enter the growth cycle after the treatment, multiple sessions may be required. Treatment results will vary from patient to patient depending on the skin and hair colours.
How Do You Prepare?
It is recommended to shave the day before. It is not recommended that you wax or pluck hair prior to treatment. Although, having done so will not mean that you cannot have a laser hair removal treatment, best results are obtained if you do not wax/pluck. Once you treatment series has begun, we urge you to completely stop both waxing and plucking.
Side effects such as blisters or scars are very rare. Short term effects may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which indicated that the hair follicle has responded to the treatment.
