Types of scars

The size of your injury / wound and what casued it will determine what type of scar is formed.  Here we list the most common ones:

  • Flat Scars: The classic pink/reddish, slightly raised lesion. These scars usually flatten and lighten over time.
  • Hypoertrophic scars: These are raised from the skin initially, but over months or years will usually flatten.
  • Atrophic scars: These scars sit lower than skin level and usually occur on the face (especially after severe acne).
  • Keloid Scars: These scars are raised and significantly larger than the initial wound that caused them. They usually appear well after the injury and do not resolve without intervention.
  • Contracture Scars: These form most often after severe burns. They cause the skin to thicken and tighten becoming resistant to stretching, which can impact the range of motion of the area.
  • Stretch Marks: Most often associated with pregnancy, stretch marks  can form with any rapid changes in size. Puberty, weight loss, and bodybuilding can cause these marks.

You may start seeing improvements from 2 weeks after your first session.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?

SIDE EFFECTS

Your skin will go into heling mode after your treatment, this means that potentially scabs will form over the treated area. Picking of the scab impairs wound healing and therefore heightens the risk of scarring and discolouration. Therefore any scabs should be left alone and allowed to heal.

AFTERCARE

If dressing is required, make sure its loose fitting and breathable.

Do not leave any dressing in the prolonged area (1-6 hrs ) the treated area needs to be allowed to dry and usage of dressings should be avoided if possible.

If water does come into contact of the skin, use a cotton ball to remove.

Do not swim, soak or expose to steam.

Contact with soap may cause the scab to break off, and not dry. Cover area when showering or bathing.

Avoid any heavy workouts, or excess sweating which can dampen the area and lead to infection.

If you see any signs of infection, use a cotton bud and clean the area by applying Antibiotic ointment near to the edge of the area being treated.

If unsure, consult a doctor.

If the treatment sight is below the waist, healing may take longer. Inital weeping may be greater due to high fluid pressure within the lower body.

Elevating the area whilst sleeping will help heal.

Once scabs are removed, the skin will look slightly red and irritated which will persist for the next 2-3months.

You will experience itching. ( Do not scratch ) Tapping the area will help.

If you have an allergic reaction, take an antihistamine.

No direct sunlight on the area once treated.

Use a good sun block, and expose the area gradually to the sun.

After the area has healed the process can be done again to clear any remaining area’s  that might be remaining.

The Rejuvi Scar Kit must be used at home. ( x3 products – Conditioning oil , Retinyl serum, Scarcare Gel )

Keloid Scar Injections

An overgrowth of fibrous, thick and dense skin tissue on top of your original wounded area may form resulting in raised scar referred to as Keloid Scar.

Scars are usually permanent unless treated.  They can appear on any part of your body where skin had severe trauma. Patients with darker fitzpatrick skin type may me affected more as they tend to not heal as well after injury or trauma to the skin tissue.

Our Cosmetic Doctor may suggest a course  of cortisone injections to reduce the swelling and help flatten the raised scar tissue. This further prevents  the scar from spreading.

Starting from $120 per treatment depending on size of scar.

Quanta Co2 You Laser

Our CO2 You Laser with Double wavelength technology is the first and innovative CO2 10600 – GaAs 1540 nm dual laser on the market using Quanta System’s exclusive Quanta Mixed Technology® to establish treatment synergies between the lasers.

Our CO2 laser as the ability to break down the scar tissue. The laser  emits a beam of energy that vaporizes the skin cells. This vaporization then causes the skin to release the collagen fibers that are trapped in the scar.

Scars  can be treated efficiently for advanced results with minimal or no down-time for the patients.
