PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin – The next generation PRP)

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) treatments have gained a lot of popularity in the last few years due to it’s many benefits. Both females & males can achieve a younger and fresher look by using their own cells. PRF is the next step in the evolution of natural skin and hair rejuvenation.

PRF has been around in the cosmetic Industry for many years. We however are one of the very few clinics on the Gold Coast offering PRF treatments for natural skin rejuvenation & regeneration.

What Is PRF?

PRF (Platelet-rich Fibrin) is the next generation treatment of platelet concentrate. PRF consists of white blood cells, growth factors and fibrin matrix used for skin rejuvenation, hair growth and wound healing.

How is PRF obtained?

Your blood sample is taken and distributed into tubes.
The tubes are then spun in a centrifuge at a low speed.
Once the tubes are removed from the centrifuge. The plasma which sits in the top of the tubes are drawn up for your PRF treatment.

How is Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) different from Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

A PRF extraction method means that the collected blood from the patient is spun in a special low-speed centrifuge to separate the patient’s platelets. It also separates the patients white blood cells from the red blood cells. On the other hand, in a traditional PRP extraction process, the patient’s blood is spun at very high speeds in a centrifuge to obtain the patients PRP solution for treatment. Red blood cells are eliminated by spinning the blood at extremely high speeds. This is a good idea, however if the tubes are spun for too long good cells may be eliminated also.

PRF releases a much higher concentration of growth factors over a longer time compared to PRP lasting up to one week after the initial treatment. This means longer lasting benefits at a faster healing rate than PRP, maximising your treatment results. The tubes used in the PRF process are also free from any anticoagulant or additives. The advantage of not using any anticoagulant in the tube where your blood is collected means that the plasma solution forms a platelet and white blood cell-rich fibrin scaffold once injected into the treatment area.

Why should I have Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatment

PRF treatments are increasingly becoming popular in the cosmetic use as it stimulates collagen production and improves your skin texture, firmness & elasticity.

PRF is safe and effective method for overall skin rejuvenation and also hair regeneration.

How long do results last

To maximize results, we recommend a series of treatments (normally 3 treatments) spaced six to eight weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are required every six to twelve months. Please remember that patients may have different concerns and requirements. We may personalise your treatment plans accordingly and results may vary between candidates as your own blood and your body’s growth factors are used for rejuvenation and regeneration. Results may last up to a year.

First visible results seen after initial treatments are around 6 weeks after your initial treatment. Long term effects may take around 3 months to take effect, these include collagen production enhanced skin quality, skin elasticity and skin tone.

Side effects

For facial treatments potential and common side effects are swelling, bruising, soreness, redness and tenderness. Mild inflammation, redness or numbness may occur for several hours. For scalp treatments you may shower and wash your hair several hours after your treatment. We do recommend that you do not use any harsh chemical or coloring products on your hair / scalp for a minimum of 72 hours after your treatment.

Who may not be a suitable candidate

Most people that are healthy can have a PRF treatment. Contradictions include patients who suffer from chronic liver disease, blood platelet disorders, presence of active infections, cardiovascular or hemodynamic instability and anticoagulation therapy
