Platelet Rich Plasma diagram

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy has become a highly sought-after non-surgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation, pain management, healing of soft tissue and even hair restoration. This therapy means that your own blood platelets are used to stimulate new cell growth. In skin rejuvenation an improvement of your skin complexion and skin texture can be achieved. It will boost collagen production and may help restore lost facial volume.

PRP Therapy for Pain Management

PRP Therapy is also gaining popularity for use in pain management. PRP assists is the healing process thru the release of growth factors that are an important part in bone healing. This helps to reduce or eliminate pain. Furthermore, PRP injections have also been used to treat soft tissue injuries, chronic tendinopathy, acute Achilles tendon and ligament injuries.

PRP Therapy For Hair Loss

PRP Therapy can also be successfully used to treat thinning hair and hair loss, particularly male pattern baldness, as the platelets contain important growth hormones. These growth hormones stimulate lost hair follicles with essential nutrients required to grow healthier, fuller and ticker hair.  It is important to start treatment early on and whether you are a suitable candidate will be determined during your consultation.

How It Works

Your blood is essentially made up of four components;

  • red blood cells,
  • white blood cells,
  • the plasma and
  • the platelets.

During a PRP treatment, your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge, which enables the separation of the blood cells from your plasma and platelets. This is then re-injected into the area of concern wether it is used for skin rejuvenation, pain management or hair loss to promote cell growth and healing.  PRP harnesses the beneficial functions of the patient’s own platelets and therefore there is no risk of allergy or rejection of the treatment, which means that it’s safe for everyone.

We would also like to point out the importance of a good diet prior to your treatment. Remember we are working with your own blood to create your PRP. This means that the better your diet, the better quality your PRP will be. Try to have a healthy diet by incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of spring or filtered water. Please avoid overindulging on carbohydrates such as breads, pastas, rice and processed foods. Also please avoid any overly fatty foods and cease alcohol consumption and avoid sugary, sweet drinks. We also recommend avoiding any fish oil supplements and anti inflammatory medication as these may restrict the strength of your platelets. We recommend this healthy diet regime for at least 2 days before your treatment.

Patients that follow our dietary recommendations will possibly experience better and faster results from your PRP treatment. Multiple Treatment sessions may be required to achieve optimal results. Please contact us for further information.
