Unwanted hair appear on various parts of the body and face. We have hair reduction treatments available to target most areas of the body & face. Our society has changed the trends in hair… more and more body hair is considered to be unsightly and shameful . There seems a growing trend of men also seeking this treatment.
What Hair Removal Techniques Are There?
There are many different ways to remove unwanted body hair. Some if these methods can be done in your own home, some other methods are done in Salons or clinics… there are mainly 5 methods for hair removal / reduction treatments:
Laser hair removal, which is probably the most well-known and administered treatment available for permanent hair removal today. Please note Laser Hair removal does not work on white or grey hairs.
Electrolysis a shortwave radio frequency technique used for hair removal and works great on white and grey hairs. It is a treatment that can take a long time depending on the area treated as hairs are targeted individually.
IPL hair removal, used on darker hairs and is not effective on lighter hairs. Results aren’t as superior as laser hair removal treatments.
Waxing, has been around for decades. It is done at salons and also a popular at home treatment. It removes hairs at the root, without the use of a razor. Waxing is done to also shape female eyebrows.
Threading is one of the oldest facial hair remover techniques that has been practiced for centuries in the Middle East, Egypt, and India. In recent years, the practice has exploded in popularity in Australia. It is a very popular method for women who wish to get their eyebrows shaped.
What Benefits Can I Expect from Hair Removal Treatments?
The benefits of hair removal can vary depending on what you are trying to achieve and which areas you would like treated. Eyebrow threading can help enhance your facial features with a precise, brow style. Laser Hair removal can be used to treat most areas of the body. Consistency is they keys to achieve satisfactory results. We recommend your Laser hair removal appointments to be spaced every 4 weeks apart as this is the normal growth cycle of a hair follicle. Remember, hair grows at different times… therefore regular treatments are required… with laser hair removal, the hair follicles are targeted deeper and shut down, giving you better long lasting results. Waxing and threading treatments get rid of hair by the root, therefore you experience regrowth around 4-6 weeks after your treatment. With shaving the hairs are only “cut” therefore you will notice stumpy hair re growth just days after shaving.
Who is a Good Candidate for Hair Removal?
Most people who have unwanted hair on their face or body can have hair removal treatments. Please ensure your chosen method is suitable for your colour of hair. Remember lighter hairs may be more difficult to treat and some methods will not work on these hairs.
Who Should Not Have These Procedures?
For those with light coloured hair, laser hair removal is not recommended. IPL is not recommended for use on darker skin tones due to the risk of hypopigmentation.
If you have any active skin infection, hair removal treatments should be avoided until the skin has healed. Clients who are taking active facial skin products or have received cosmetic injections, or chemical peels in the two weeks prior to any facial hair removals should wait for at least 2 weeks after their facial treatments to avoid causing any unwanted skin irritations.
Are Hair Removal Procedures Painful?
This is a common question that many people ask…. With all methods of hair removal you can expect some level of discomfort. This can also depend on your level of skin sensitivity and may differ from person to person. Some people may experience their skin to be slightly red and irritated. We recommend the use of Aloe Vera gel to calm the areas treated.
