Lines around the mouth area are commonly referred to as Smoker’s  lipstick. They can appear on top and bottom of the lips also intruding into the lip area which can cause a lipstick application to bleed past your lips onto the skin.  lines are small lines that etch the lips and may extend vertically from the lips.

How do smokers lines appear

These lines occur as we grow older and the lip naturally starts to lose its volume, along with repetitive bunching of the tissue from muscular activity. This means that even people who do not smoke can get these lines. Think of drinking a drink via a straw. The pouting effect over the years could also be causing the smokers lines. Free radicals , effects of the sun and general ageing will weaken the skin around your mouth causing lines and wrinkles. If you are a smoker, remember that your smoking habit also severely slows down your natural ability to form collagen resulting in weak wrinkly skin.

How are smokers lines treated

Usually our Cosmetic Doctor uses Dermal fillers and small amounts of Anti wrinkle injections to treat this concern. Sometimes a peel may be recommended to improve the overall skin structure.

Dermal fillers are an excellent choice to treat this concern. Only a small amount of product is required to treat this area.

If your smoker’s lines present only with very fine lines and wrinkles, Anti Wrinkle Injections may be sufficient to treat this area.
